Miss Bennet’s Dragon was a 2021 Royal Dragonfly Award Winner for Fantasy and 2021 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Finalist for Fantasy.
“The book is not ‘Emma with dragons,’ nor is it a lighthearted gaslamp fantasy. It feels more like Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series, as the draca are enlisted in the Napoleonic War. We recommend this book if you enjoy serious gaslamp fantasy.” – Plot Trysts
“M. Verant shows a great love for the work and period in this charming retelling. Napoleon Bonaparte wants English draca to use as weapons, so Elizabeth not only has to fend off pompous proposals, overbearing aristocrats; she's got draca and danger to her country to deal with as well” - Locus Magazine
“M. Verant’s colorful worldbuilding, nuanced characters, and suspenseful plot made for another enthralling read right to the very last tantalizing page. This is Gaslamp fantasy at its best and I can heartily recommend it to Austen lovers, dragon fantasy fans, or those who like an exciting historical with fantasy elements.” – Sophia Rose, Vine Voice
“Miss Bennet’s Dragon is a wholly fresh homage to Jane Austen, as well as a riveting novel in its own right. Thrilling, superbly paced, and moving. I highly recommend this novel to fans of Jane Austen, as well as to anyone who has ever pondered the mystery of dragons.” - Katherine Sturtevant, author of A True and Faithful Narrative and At the Sign of the Star
“M. Verant captures the voice of Elizabeth Bennet in a historical romance that encompasses the Napoleonic Wars, arcane marriage laws, and women with the power to command the fiercest, most dangerous, and wisest of beasts.” - Vanessa MacLaren-Wray, author of All That Was Asked
"Power in the Age of Lies is a riveting political thriller, all the more plausible given today's national nightmare has shattered the country into hostile factions where truth has been the first and most enduring casualty. "Very highly recommended" - Midwest Book Review
“Power in the Age of Lies calls to mind The Man in the High Castle, in its dystopian vision of a divided America, but is perhaps better described as a liberal (and much shorter) Atlas Shrugged, which at its heart is a compelling, page-turning thriller. Verant has given us a stirring and disturbing book, and a lot to think about as 2020 looms.” —Greg Olear, author of Totally Killer and Dirty Rubles: An Introduction to Trump/Russia
M. VERANT CRUSHES TRUMP’S WALL IN NEW NOVEL / Trump’s Wall Splits America in a New Thriller about Power, Truth, and a Country on the Brink of Civil War / SAN FRANCISCO, CA, January 22, 2019 — Political fiction is hot. George Orwell’s novel “1984” shot to No. 1 on Amazon’s best-seller list after Trump’s election. But M. Verant’s new novel “Power in the Age of Lies,” published by Acerbic Press, takes political fiction to the next level by bluntly portraying a corrupt Trump conspiring with Russia while building his Wall… read full release here
